MP3: The Freeze Tag - "The Hustle"

Cassettes Won't Listen & Bisco Smith Release Lead Single From Concept EP

The Song:

"Find what you love on the playground hustle." That's the central theme to The Freeze Tag's lead single, "The Hustle," and it's easier said than done. The Freeze Tag, comprised of L.A. producer Cassettes Won't Listen and Brooklyn MC Bisco Smith, are releasing the "The Hustle" as the lead single from their debut EP, Hamster Kid, a concept project that revolves around a young antihero named Hamster Kid and his journey through life's trials and society's tribulations. To bring the concept to life, CWL and Bisco tapped street artist Bishop 203 and director Mike Vidoli to create an animated music video for each song on Hamster Kid, which will be released through The Freeze Tag's label, Daylight Curfew, on ,May 3, 2011.

As the first song on The Freeze Tag's record, "The Hustle" incorporates pieces of the other songs on the album, and acts as a rough sketch of the situations Hamster Kid has to contend with along his journey. Each song's concept is illustrated within the video for "The Hustle", with corresponding video stills that can be seen on The Freeze Tag's website. While CWL's guitar-laced production wavers between ominous and inspirational, Bisco flows steadily over the beat with allegorical lyrics. Haunted by voices, thrown into schoolyard scuffles, witness to the world's ugliness, and ultimately misunderstood, the everyman's underdog is in a constant struggle to find peace within himself on the "playground hustle."

The Freeze Tag's Hamster Kid will be released May 3, 2011 via Daylight Curfew.

MP3: Dub Sonata - "Bluntitled"

From Melanie J Cornish:

MP3: Dub Sonata - "Bluntitled"

Dub Sonata's second consecutive all-instrumental project is here just in time for...today. Bluntitled is a wavy mixture of reggae, electro, dubstep and hip hop- the; most potent strand of music being released today. The self-titled single is a dubbed out manifesto about legalization that mixes classic reggae samples with herb-related dialogue. That MP3 and the already popularized Phillies Blunt inspired artwork are attached to this email. Although you don't have to partake in the lifestyle to enjoy the music, "Bluntitled" was certainly made with the stoner in mind...so happy 4/21, if that's your thing.

"I made Bluntitled with a certain crowd in mind. It’s not necessarily meant to be thought provoking music but at the same time there is a serious issue at hand that it touches on and even jokes about. Depending on what cuts through when you hear it, you might be laughing, shaking your head in disgust or grooving to the dubbed out drums and heavy bass line.” - Dub Sonata

Video: Has-Lo - "Untitled #1 (Hold On)"

From Mello Music Group:

Video: Has-Lo - "Untitled #1 (Hold On)"

A couple weeks ago, we shared the free mp3 download for the song "Untitled #1 (Hold On)" from Has-Lo's critically acclaimed album "In Case I Don't Make It."  Today enjoy the official music video to "Untitled #1 (Hold On)."

The second video, Untitled #1 (Hold On), was directed by Antonio Battle who also came up with the visual concepts.   The song is one of the most autobiographical on the entire album. With the passing of Has-Lo's Grandmother the video's cemetery scene was meant to match the track's lyrival content and emotive weight. It was a visit to a lost relative on the anniversary of their passing. Other scenes such as the record store were more textural, to give listeners a setting to go with the music.  It was also designed to emphasize the fact that music is a part of how Has-Lo copes with life's trials.  Putting a video to this one was important for Has due to the personal nature of the track and since not everyone catches the layers of meaning within a song on just a listen or two: sometimes visuals help to key people into the themes.
