Guru, Solar and 7 Grand on "8.0 Lost & Found" World Tour

From Jackie O:

GURU, SOLAR, AND 7 GRAND RECORDS HEAD OUT ON
THE 8.0 LOST & FOUND WORLD TOUR.

The #1 Hip Hop/Jazz Act On The Planet is taking their original and unique brand of hip-hop directly to fans around the world.  The legendary Guru aka Mr. GangStarr along with his partner Super-producer Solar and 7 Grand Records are pleased to announce the European leg of their 8.0 Lost & Found World Tour. Performances are planned in the following: Geneva, Switzerland (July 8 - Scene Ella Fitzgerald Festival); Feldkirch, Austria (July 9 -Pool Bar Festival); Zamardi, Hungary (July 10 - Balaton Sound Festival; London UK (July 11 - 100 Club); Southampton UK (July 12 - Orange Room); Haarlem, Netherlands (July 16 - Patranaat); Berlin, Germany (July 17 - Astra); Stockholm, Sweden (July 18 - Stockholm International Jazz Festival).

"Every concert on the tour has been sold out.  This is considerably the biggest World Tour of any independent Hip Hop act/label this year," expressed Guru.  In his most recent blog from the road, Guru states "Our killer Hip-hop/Jazz set produced by Solar has consistently proven without a doubt that we have the best hip-hop/Jazz show on the planet." The set includes GangStarr classics and more recent 7 Grand material including music from the latest release 8.0 Lost & Found in-stores now.

The concert dates kicked off in the U.S. at The Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT then headed to Salt Lake City, Colorado, Vail, Breckenridge, Telluride, Durango, and The X Games in Aspen.  Additional shows were booked in West Hollywood, Las Vegas and Atlanta date before heading to Japan and Europe. "The cool thing was that our audience is so vastly mixed and includes many 7 Grand supporters of varied ages, generations and backgrounds," explains Guru. "We work our show so that no one is left out. Whether you're into straight ahead jazz, pop, R&B or hip-hop, there's a musical experience for everybody. This is hip-hop/jazz in its purest blend." "Guru's smooth lead vocals combine with Solar's masterful song arrangements to create a musical journey beyond comparison," one review states.  The acknowledgement clearly demonstrates the impact that Guru, Solar, Jazzmatazz and 7 Grand have globally on the Music Industry today.

"Our goal with 7 Grand is to continue to be vital catalyst in keeping Real Hip Hop alive for the future by bridging the generation gap and blending genres," expresses Solar.  "My partner, Guru is known for his groundbreaking Jazzmatazz album series where he collaborated with the likes of Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Isaac Hayes, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Macy Gray and David Sanborn, so we've raised the bar for hip-hop musically and we do that on-stage as well."

Some J-Zone Journalism/Blogging

From J-Zone:

Happy Monday. I actually like Monday better than Friday, because I'm not reminded that I'm a bum for never having any weekend plans outside of reporting basketball games. Anyway, as I mentioned in my P.E.T.A bashing e-mail last month, I've been given a platform for my editorials, beefs, insults and other outbursts that any disgruntled and bored 30 something dude who lives with his grandmother in a two fare zone in a remote section of Queens and can't tolerate the "New NYC" would have time to think of. Here are a few of the more recent ones (there are more though), which include some random thoughts for 30 somethings, why Law & Order: Criminal Intent has made my life miserable and some fun music debate (one or two of these I may have e-mailed in the past). Feel free to leave feedback on the comments section of the "blog" (I hate that word) or bring up the fact that I haven't had a haircut in months and now sport a 1979 Todd Bridges afro.

Shout out to Dante Ross for giving me a column on his "blog", because nobody checks myspace anymore and I felt like sh*t for emailing these things to people all the time. Plus, the net is over flooded with crappy blogs, so I would've never started my own. Speaking of which, I'm way too ghetto with email to know how to do that unsubscribe link sh*t. If you don't wish to receive these occasional emails, just politely ask me to be removed and I'll gladly remove your bum a*s from my list. Good riddance, forget you then. I won't post that much when school starts back up in the fall, but check back when you're bored just to make sure I haven't gone insane.

New Mannie Fresh Artist 'The Show' Joins OGPR

From Nancy B:

There’s No Business Like SHOW Business

How do you impress one half of the brains behind the Cash Money label and creator of its infamous signature sound.....? Well, it helps if you already have a solid buzz of your own due to twelve years of grinding and perfecting your craft and almost a hundred completed songs. That is exactly what 24-year-old New Orleans native and next-on-deck MC, The Show, brought to the table upon being introduced to Mannie Fresh by Fresh’s long-time manager, DJ Wop. Soon after, the two laid down a song down together and Fresh promptly signed The Show to his Chubby Boy Productions imprint label.

Born and raised in New Orleans East, The Show, whose real name is Donald Allen, first grabbed New Orleans’ attention in 2004 with the song, Put It Down. The young rapper went on to attack the Southern street music scene with the classic street tapes I Do This, FEMA, 80’s Baby and Victory Lap. Word of his talent quickly spread and his ability to be an all around entertainer earned him the moniker The Show and enabled him to perform across the Southern U.S. opening for staples like Lil Wayne, BG and David Banner and picking up his own fans along the way.

The Show’s sojourn into rap music started back in 1995 when the death of his father inspired him to write a rap poem, which he read to his mother. The love that poem received kept the young man writing and the rest just came naturally; as it does when you are destined to shine. Dubbed as a ‘lyrical’ artist, not something oft heard when New Orleans’ roster of emcees is discussed, The Show veered from his usual style for the making of the first single, I Does ft. Mannie Fresh, from his upcoming debut, No Business Like Show Business, at the behest of in-house Chubby Boy producer, Bass Heavy.

“I was drunk in the studio one night, recording with Bass Heavy, when he said “Show, sometimes you have to have fun and I have the perfect song for you.” The Show explains. “Sometimes (Bass Heavy went on), you can just keep it simple and still have a good record. We all know you can rap, but can you party?” “So, after about two hours of trying to write the simplest lyrics possible, I Does was born and I actually love the record. Shout out to my big Bro, Bass Heavy.”

An association with an industry heavyweight like Mannie Fresh will open a lot of doors but those looking for a heavy roster of features on No Business Like Show Business may be surprised to know that The Show plans to rely on the merit of his own rhyming skills for his debut album’s success.

“A lot of today’s new artists try to create singles with already established artists to solidify themselves. Those songs, in turn, sound like the established artist’s song instead. First time out the gate we are sticking with the in-house ‘Cash Money formula’  but I do have some artists in mind for the second album.”

Production duties will also be kept close to home on The Show’s album debut. Along with Bass Heavy, and of course Mannie Fresh, The Show already had a few albums worth of solid material when he signed with Chubby Boy.

“One of the things that Mannie admired about me is that when I became a part of the Chubby Boy/EGMG imprint I was already fully prepared. I had been working closely with three producers, Ceaux Young of Flight School/EGMG, Zella of FlightSchool and Stevie Drumma of Premier Hits. Together we already had almost a hundred songs.”

From Jazz to Zydeco, from Blues to Hip Hop, the city of New Orleans has a long and varied musical legacy for The Show to live up to and he is ready. When asked what he brings to the game that is fresh, or hasn’t been done before, he answers quickly.

“There isn’t much beyond the conscious, revolutionary, gangsta, stuntin’ or every day struggles that hip hop has to offer.” He explains. “Yet, if you twist things a certain way, you can broaden those subjects so far that you can turn it into a fifteen-year career like LL Cool J, Jay-Z or Nas. Since Hip Hop is a predominantly black art form, every rap artist has a similar story; growing up with no father, mom was a single parent so you learn from the streets, but when I put my twist to it, I create a variation of that story and make it my own.”

Indeed, there IS no business like SHOW business and this show WILL go on. Album due in stores Fall 2009!

Victory Lap Reloaded hosted by Mannie Fresh currently available on iTunes.

For Immediate Release:

Vancouver based Swollen Members and Battle Axe Records have formed a partnership California based Suburban Noize Records for the release of the group’s upcoming new projects. The first release under the partnership will be Swollen Members heavily anticipated new studio album “Armed To The Teeth”, which is slated for release August 25th through Suburban Noize. "We're very excited to announce we've signed with Suburban Noize Records for the release of our new album and upcoming projects," said Mad Child from Swollen Members in a statement. Kaleo Futuristo - More Than Just a Crazy Haircut

When Kaleo Futuristo’s The Future is NOW! landed on my desk the first thought I had when I looked at the album was “damn, this dude has some crazy ass hair!” After popping the CD in, however, I found that Kaleo, who is both an emcee and a singer, was interested in making a lot more than just fashion statements. I really felt the album and this week I caught up with Kaleo to find out more about his music, his decision to make The Future is NOW! a clean record, what love’s got to do with it, and, of course, his crazy ass hair. Here are a few highlights:

On his music:
"Variety and self-expression. That's what my style is all about and that’s what my music is all about and, artistically and creatively, that's what translates into fresh music."

On his crazy ass hair:
"I just have fun expressing myself in all different ways - hair, clothing, music, art - that just happened to be another way for me to do that and, of course, since I'm a Leo it only makes sense that my lion's mane is poppin' nicely."

Crown City Rockers Announce New Album

From Stephen Bolles:

Crown City RockersThe Day After Forever
September 29th, Gold Dust

Bay Area true school hip-hop soldiers Crown City Rockers have linked with Brooklyn based Gold Dust to release their upcoming album, The Day After Forever.  The first album since 2004's Earth Tones, the album represents the culmination of years thrilling fans on the road, fine tuning their sound, and collaborating with like minded hip-hop artists.

CCR have built a reputation for their driving sound derived from live instruments fused with traditional hip-hop production, which makes their live shows particularly dynamic.  Emcee Rashaan Ahmad commands the crowd in the tradition of the block party greats, with a tight backing group infusing funk energy into the bouncy hip-hop sound.

Though the group has remained intact, the album represents a reunion of sorts, as many of the contributors have been focusing on solo projects recently.  Rashaan Ahamad's solo album Push (2008) furthered his reputation as a party rocker par excellence, which he supported through tours with People Under The Stairs, Common Market, and others.  Bassist/producer Headnodic recently helmed the boards for last year's Mighty Underdogs project on Definitive Jux with emcees Gift of Gab and Lateef from the Quannum camp, and keyboardist Kat recently completed a solo project and is currently working with People Under The Stairs' Thes One.

The Day After Forever will be followed by an extensive US tour.
