in 2006, after hearing of Dilla's death of Lupus, not even 2 weeks before I released my first album The Call, I was pretty devastated. I dedicated the release party to J Dilla, and I called in some favors to help create a tribute mixtape. The tape was well received... by everyone...except the estate of J Dilla, who immediately hated on and squashed our efforts before we could sell it and try to contribute to Dilla's mounting financial woes and hospital bills...even going as far as sending C&D letters to my label, the distributor and venue where we had the release party... I guess with so much going on at the time, it was hard to decipher who's right and exact, and who's trying to stick the knife in your back, to quote myself...lol
Needless to say the whole situation left some bad tastes in everyone's mouths.
So, I've since kept this project under wraps and haven't mentioned it... until now. 4 years after its conception, if you haven't already peeped it, please check out The Dilla Project, featuring myself, DN3, the whole RAHM Nation crew, Ohmega Watts, J-Live, Rashid Hadee and more.

K-Murdock Comments On His Blog
Here's what K-Murdock had to say about the situation on his blog:
"What a crazy 1-week span for me as far as emotions go! Last tuesday i was both elated & relieved that my latest project, "Piano-rama", was finally seeing the light of day here in the States... and NOW, i sit here feeling shocked & betrayed after learning Monday that the show i hosted for the last 8 years on XM Satellite Radio, Subsoniq, is no more! One thing i have learned during my 10-year tenure in the "radio business" is that no one/show is promised tomorrow! Trust me, when the big-wigs make decisions, the talent, and more importantly, the FANS are the last to know! What really sucks beyond the fact that i wont be able to go on air and help promote good, progressive hip-hop music anymore, is that the artist who make it, will have one less, yet major, outlet to get it played on!"

Founder Of Interdependent Media TRUTHLiVE Prepares for Pre-Album Release, The Unlearning, With First Leak
"If you truly believe in something... If you truly believe in yourself... Don't let outside opinion change your feelings. Stay committed to your dreams." -Evan "TRUTHLiVE" Phillips
"Shoot Me Down," the first single from TRUTHLiVE's EP The Unlearning, paints a biography of the emcee's life experience. TRUTHLiVE explains, "In all honesty, what sparked the idea for the song was the gunshot and respirator breathing sound effects already in the beat." The song's intense drumbeat and bass set the tone, while a piano line and soul clap give the track an extra pop. As the piano mimics the spoken pulse, TRUTHLiVE drives the song's theme home, rapping, "They wanna shoot me down, wanna kill all my dreams/ But I keep on breathing, keep on believing." As a self-proclaimed optimistic realist, TRUTHLiVE built on the sounds of Tha Bizness' powerful beat and produced an empowering theme song for the downtrodden.
"Shoot Me Down" is a response to the many doubters that independent artists face. "Being an indie artist on the 'underground' circuit is a struggle," says TRUTHLiVE. "I've come across countless non-believers and outright haters - those who don't think I have chosen a viable career. I have always remained steadfast in my conviction for Hip-Hop, emceeing, and poetry." The Unlearning is the precursor to TRUTHLiVE's forthcoming album Patience, meant to give listeners a taste of his unique style. The EP features production by Tha Bizness, who have worked with 50 Cent and Lil' Wayne, as well astracks crafted by The ARE, Vitamin D, J-Zone, and TRUTHLiVE himself.
As the owner and founder of Bay Area record label Interdependent Media, TRUTHLiVE has helped promote the careers of artists such as Tanya Morgan, Finale, J*DaVeY, and more. His full-length debut album Patience, produced entirely by Jake One, will be available April 20, 2010 via Interdependent Media.
Evan "TRUTHLiVE" Phillips, owner and founder of Interdependent Media, has certainly made his mark in the music industry with his wide range of talents. As an emcee, DJ, entrepreneur, and artist, TRUTHLiVE has had his hands in everything from a very young age. After a traumatic adolescent period where his health was at risk, three heart surgeries proved the artist to be quite a fighter. He explains to his new listeners, "The name TRUTHLiVE doesn't mean that I'm proclaiming myself as the truth, end-all be-all; it's more of a reminder to myself on how to conduct my life and career." The MC best summates, "My music is my truth and my life." That meaningful music will arrive on April 20th in the form of Patience, TRUTHLiVE’s debut release, courtesy of Bay Area label Interdependent Media.
