Many people were disillusioned earlier this year when they saw the now infamous video of Drake “freestyling” at Hot97 in New York. It showed the young superstar reading the lyrics of his “freestyle” rap off his Blackberry.
Bridgeport emcee Chase Davis says people shouldn’t have been that surprised.
C.H.A.D. The Change had a lot to live up to when I first popped in his Courage Heart And Dedication mix-CD. Namely, he had to live up to his name. I’ve always felt that intricate monikers should be reserved for intricate artists. Thankfully, it only took a few songs to find out that C.H.A.D. The Change’s name and music fit together perfectly. Originally from Detroit, but now residing in Atlanta, C.H.A.D. The Change manages to be interesting both lyrically and musically, not allowing either side of his work to fall off. Radio stations in the south east are starting to notice his work, and so have I, which is why I caught up with C.H.A.D. The Change this week to find out more about his music, what kind of changes he’d like to see happen in the world, and why he feels Canada has always been quite the inviting option for residency.
Unreleased track from Parallel Uni-Verses sessions, album out October 13th on Gold Dust "Flashback" digital single available now. Parallel Uni-Verses is streaming in it's entirety on Del's myspace.
Not every great track can make the album, but that's what gives us juicy material for your hungry ears. "I'm A..." is a banger of a track recorded during the same sessions as the material for Parallel Uni-Verses and produced by Parallel Thought. A liberal Quantic Soul Orchestra sample lays the foundation for the two supa emcees to get buckwild and do what they do best. Parallel Uni-Verses drops October 13th on Gold Dust.

Video: Capcom Enlists Legendary Hieroglyphics Crew for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Soundtrack Song & Video 10.08.2009 Tajai, Casual, Pep Love Featured In Video For "Battle Drum"
For too long gamers have been bludgeoned by grating, repetitive game soundtracks. Capcom has answered their prayers and exceeded expectations by assembling the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Hip Hop Mixtape. The lead video from the Mixtape- "Battle Drum"- is provided by legendary Oakland hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics. Directed by Andrew Georgopolous and Paul Trillo, the video pays tribute to Capcom's rich history in the gaming industry by evoking classic Street Fighter imagery, as the rapping protagonists take down henchmen in a variety of settings, including a junkyard and a dojo. Tajai was thrilled with the video- "it's got some live action and mimics the video game itself. It’s not just us rapping, it puts us inside the game." Tajai says that the action was so intense, in fact, that "we had to tone it down for the final cut because it was too violent. We were really fighting behind the scenes." The track was produced by Domino, and features verses by Tajai, Casual, and Pep Love. With a catchy chorus, belted out powerfully by Tajai ("Hands, feet, 'bo’s, teeth, knees. Even the words I speak cut deep."), there can be no doubt that "Battle Drum" was perfectly crafted for a fighting game like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The song, with its infectious chorus and pugilistic verses, will be instrumental in motivating gamers to crush their opponents. The video features cameos by Hieroglyphics members Del The Funky Homosapien, A- Plus (and his son, who features at the beginning of the video), and Phesto, as well as Capcom's own John Diamonon.
Souls Of Mischief Release Artwork & Track List For New Album, Montezuma's Revenge 10.06.2008 Legendary West Coast Collective Collaborate With Artist Steven Lopez For Album Artwork
(October 6, 2009 - Brooklyn, NY) Souls Of Mischief, the Oakland, CA quartet and members of the mighty Hieroglyphics Crew are very proud to announce the release of the artwork and track listing for their new album, Montezuma's Revenge. The crew tapped artist Steven Lopez to paint a portrait of the group and album producer Prince Paul. Lopez is perhaps best known for his work with Erykah Badu. The album will be available December 2nd via Hiero Imperium Records.
As Souls Of Mischief releases the track listing for their new album, their collaborative effort for the album artwork should be brought to light as well. This being their first album in almost 10 years, the group decided to try something different this time around for the album cover. With all previous album covers based around photography, Souls decided to enlist a painter to handle the artwork. Steven Lopez ended up being chosen to handle the delegated task. For those who are not familiar with Steven Lopez's work, his resume runs the gamut from street art to a collaboration with Erykah Badu. Lopez, being a fan of SOM himself since their debut album, 93 'til Infinity gladly accepted. "When you work with other artists of the same caliber, there is no need to convince or walk them through. They are legit and it didn't take us long to have faith in each other. The icing on the cake was the fact that these cats are die-hard b-boys. This has always been my attitude in life and it was great to share it with them," stated Lopez when asked about his experience working with SOM. He succeeds in creating a painting that not only captures the group in its entirety, but the subtleties of each member individually as well. The result is a narrative image. He explains, "I dislike pictures that are purposely posed, so I would talk to each member and ask them to reenact certain memories and moments. Those were the shots that I was looking for. It was like a picture that alludes to another story."
Montezuma's Revenge Track Listing: 1. Intro 2. Won! 3. Postal 4. Tour Stories 5. Skit 6. Proper Aim 7. You Got It 8. Hiero HQ 9. Poets Skit 10. Poets 11. Mr. Freeman Skit 12. Fourmation 13. Dead Man Walkin 14. For Real Y'all 15. Lickity Split 16. Home Game 17.Outro 18. Lalala

It looks like Shyne's homecoming is on hold for the moment.
The former Bad Boy rapper (born Jamal Barrow) was scheduled to be released from prison Tuesday (October 6) after serving more than nine years of a 10-year sentence in connection with the 1999 Club New York shooting involving Diddy and Jennifer Lopez.
But his release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed to MTV News that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize, a rep explained.
"Shyne is currently in federal custody while his future immigration status is determined," the rep said in a message to MTV News. Shyne attorney Oscar Michelen emphasized to MTV News on Tuesday afternoon that Shyne has not been released, contrary to media reports.
In August, a lawyer for Shyne said the rapper was "90 percent of the way home" after a judge ruled on his post-release supervision. The rapper received two and a half years of post-release supervision (probation, essentially) stemming from his conviction on first-degree assault and a host of other lesser charges. At the time of his sentencing, an official with the Department of Correction confirmed to MTV News that Shyne would have to complete at least eight years and seven months of his prison sentence.
For years, though, Shyne's release date has been the subject of much confusion. Michelen acknowledged the subject had become urban legend, as the rumors started yearly that his client would be released. Michelen told MTV News in August that he believed a clerical error led to the incorrect assumptions.
"I think [the basis for the rumor] was created by a computer," he explained, "because the Department of Corrections has a Web site where you can do an inmate lookup. And if you have the information, it will show you that [Shyne's] earlier release date was originally April [of this year] and then June. And we don't now how that was in there. But it showed that. And then what would happen is before a release date, [an inmate] would get produced before a parole board, and in the institution, there would be rumors that [Shyne] was up for parole. I guess inmates or guards would spread the rumor."
At press time, the status of Shyne's release from prison remained unclear.
