[Best of 2017]Dating all the way back to the year 2000, RapReviews has done an annual "Best Of" series of articles and editorials highlighting what was worthwhile in hip-hop over the last 12 months. For myself personally I often drew inspiration from the annual Pazz & Jop ballot I was asked to submit each December, and though I contacted Village Voice about whether or not they were doing the poll again for 2017, it seems to me as though they've decided to discontinue it. Case in point -- if you click on the link to "complete results" in the article above it just redirects you to the VV home page. (EDITOR'S UPDATE: It appears my ballot got "lost in the mail" so I may be submitting one after all.)

Even though I lost my muse so-to-speak that won't stop our crack team of writers from coming up with their own "Best Of" lists for the year 2017. As for my own article I'll just have to dig a little deeper than usual. Before I just had to know what I was submitting to Pazz & Jop then cycle those picks over to RR as well. Unfortunately my own 2017 came with its share of distractions that took me away from covering the arts that I love, including the loss of a family member and the death of a close personal friend, plus my increased responsibilities as a writer and reporter for MMA Mania. Nevertheless a few things stick out in my mind, so go on over to our year 2017 page to see what I and the other writers had to say. Thanks and here's to a (hopefully) much better 2018!
