[Michal Urbaniak courtesy Wikimedia Commons]"Who Sampled It Better?" #24 - Michal Urbaniak's "A Day in the Park"

As written by Steve 'Flash' Juon, and voted on by THE PEOPLE who read!

Each time I bring you a new edition of WSIB I strive to dig a little deeper in the crates. I freely admit that's not just for you. I find it personally fascinating to read more about the musicians that hip-hop artists have sampled from, and Polish jazz musician Michal Urbaniak is certainly a fascinating individual. I was pleasantly surprised to find his Wikipedia bio even listed his musical styles as "jazz fusion, funk and hip-hop." That's only fair though given he was one of the first artists to attempt to fuse hip-hop and jazz through bands named after himself - bands like Urbanator, Urbanizer and UrbSymphony. You can definitely hear the funk and hip-hop influences on his mellow 1978 track "A Day in the Park" featuring vocals by Urszula Dudziak.

I've got three dope examples of samples of Urbaniak's track for you to listen to and vote on!

1.) Equipto x Opio f/ L'Roneous - "Faris Wheel"

2.) Royce Da 5'9" f/ J. Cole - "Boblo Boat"

3.) Skyzoo f/ Saba Abraha - "Parks and Recreation"

Place your vote below and we'll see you again in a week!
Thanks as always for voting in WSIB.
