Audio: King Harris - Ice-T's "Colors" (prod. Oh No)

Matt: King Harris and Oh No effectively bridge 1998 with 2016 by modernizing and paying homage to Ice-T’s classic west coast anthem “Colors,” but apply the title to a wider scope. The theme rap from the 1988 Dennis Hopper-directed film of the same name, “Colors” has always stood for a tour guide through the ganglands of Southern California. Almost 30 years later, Harris honors the formula - keeping the imagery strong and the chorus intact.

Audio: Mistah F.A.B. - "Survive" ft. Kendrick Lamar, Crooked I & Kobe Honeycutt (prod. by Tha Bizness)

A.T.: "I’ve known the whole TDE crew for years now, since around 2009. Jay Rock would bring his guys up to Oakland and I’d show him around The Town. We’d mob up and down the West Coast doing industry events, award shows, and core DJ retreats together. I reached out to Kendrick about a year ago like, 'Yo Cousin, I need you on this record.' He said it was no problem and got it to me the next day. Kendrick is hella talented. I just love that the world is embracing him the way that he is. He was always a star, it just took a long time for the world to see it." - F.A.B.

Audio: 2Ru3 - "Dey Neva Knew"

Wanja: "This song is about some of my aspirations as an artist and what I aim to do through music such as offer knowledge with wisdom. Not to say I know everything, but whatever I do know that is true, I want to share it so others can grow in their lives, too. Secondly, I talk about times I've felt others didn't want me to succeed wit the music on the level I'm trying to do it, which is on the level of people like T.I., Kendrick, Snoop Dogg, if not greater." - 2Ru3

Audio: Oddisee - "The Odd Tape" (Album Stream)

MMG: The Odd Tape revolves around the rhythms of the artist’s daily life. It starts in the morning with “Alarmed,” that sounds like if Shuggie Otis did a psychedelic eye-opening cover of Nas’ “Shootouts.” It rolls through “Right Side of the Bed,” with its glitter-gold sax lines, loose drums, and sunshine-slanting-through-the-blinds keyboards.
