It’s officially December. We can start thinking about the so-called “holiday season.” I realize not everybody reading this is of the Christian faith, and even those who are don’t necessarily celebrate the holiday. There’s even debate about whether or not December 25th is the RIGHT day to celebrate Christmas, which is too long and in-depth of a discussion to go into right here and now.
If you’re the type of person who does get a fond feeling in your heart this time of year though, even if you just enjoy the seasonal music more than the religious implications, there are a few hip-hop songs out there that celebrate Christmas. It’s far from a predominant theme – there aren’t many Christmas rap albums and of those that exist the quality level is questionable at best (although there’s one that’s REALLY DOPE). You can find individual songs though that are a worthy hip-hop tribute to the holiday. Some are riffs on familiar themes, some are entirely original takes, and some are intentionally and humorously CRASS – bursting the bubble of holiday sentimentality. Here are ten such songs curated for your enjoyment.
Oh – and as you might expect – there’s really only one hip-hop song about Christmas we could start this list with – the best one of all. This song is so good you can actually play it any time of year and not just in December.
