As absurd as the title of this week’s Genesis Does might actually seem to be, the truth is in fact stranger than fiction. Japanese game developer Kaneko wanted to capitalize on the growing popularity of hip-hop music and culture in 1989, so they came up with a side scrolling beat ’em up called “DJ Boy” with a protagonist named Donald J. Boy.
One wouldn’t have necessarily expected an arcade game like this to be ported to the Mega Drive and Genesis, but back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s it was the wild wild West of game development.
