This one is quite a tale. Part one begins with a purchase I happily received from the Analogue company, makes of the Mega Sg that I use to film videos for this series. Back when the system first came out they promised a variety of adapters to make it possible to play things other than Sega Genesis on your console, including Sega Game Gear portable/handheld video games.
Unfortunately updating the firmware for my Mega Sg removed one of my favorite features – the ability to load backup copies of games off a SD card. Thankfully I quickly discovered that some enterprising people had solved this problem so I released a part two informing users of the solution.
That would be the last time I would ever use the Game Gear cartridge adapter. In a shocking twist Analogue announced on Twitter that their Game Gear adapter was DEFECTIVE and could DAMAGE YOUR CONSOLE through prolonged use. I released a third and final video to warn everyone.
Analogue has promised everyone who received the defective product (i.e. the entire first print run) a replacement within 30 days, but this really should have been caught BEFORE the cartridge adapter went out to consumers and not after the fact.
