El Viento means “The Wind” in Spanish. Why did Wolf Team decide to give a Japanese game a Spanish name? Probably for the same reason English words get slapped onto so many Japanese products — it makes it sound foreign and cool to the local market. This game is actually part of a trilogy, and although you may be unfamiliar with this or the third entry, there’s at least a chance you’d know or remember Earnest Evans.
Honestly I’m going to have to revisit it because I need to see if the same things that frustrate me about El Viento hold true. On paper the storyline is good and the controls are solid, but the implementation and the design drag it down to “mediocre at best.” Subscribe to Mistah MegaManFan for new episodes of Genesis Does every Thursday at 8 PM ET!
