Sometimes the simplest things are the best things. There’s not much to explain about why Out Run is great — you just put your foot down on the virtual gas and drive until you either complete an entire circuit or run out of time. If you don’t make it to the goal, you dust yourself of and do better the next time. You shift from low to high, you watch the other drivers and scenery fly by, and you listen to some jaunty tunes composed by Hiroshi Kawaguchi.
This game is a Sega classic made by the legend Yu Suzuki and this port for PC Engine captures the experience. The only bad thing about it is that it was never released in North American and import copies are quite expensive now!
