This game is a stunning technical achievement for 1989, but more than that, it’s straight up FUN to play. Out Live is the kind of game the TurboGrafx-16 desperately needed and never got in North America. I’m not saying it would have won the war or turned the tide but it certainly would have been the kind of game to show off exactly how impressive the system could be to skeptics. It’s a first person perspective game with smooth scrolling that gives the illusion of 3D depth, the mechanics are easy to control, and you can clumsily navigate your way through the options even without an English language patch.
Imagine how much more of a hit this would be if it had been localized! It’s got a great soundtrack, an intriguing story, and I’m definitely coming back to this one again even if I don’t find a translation for it.
