Since portalling onto our screens in 2013, Rick and Morty has become a staple of adult animation programming. The Adult Swim show continues to prove to be a colossal hit on its native channel and far beyond into other renditions of the characters, stories, and setting.
With the ability to jump around the multiverse and across the cosmos, just about anything is possible in the sci-fi comedy. Following another big renewal and the continued popularity of the IP across entertainment, we explore what might happen in Season 8 of Rick and Morty.
What We Know About Next Season
Not only has Season 8 of Rick and Morty been confirmed for 2025, but we’ve also been given a few teasers, first looks, and hints at the season’s structure and plot. Importantly, the end of Season 7 seemed to tie a bow on two arcs that have prevailed throughout the splatters of canonical stories amidst the more common episodic run-outs.
The R&M season finale revolves around a fear hole. When you jump in, you face your greatest fears, and come out without fear. Through several twists, false-solves, and an eventual final realization, it effectively explores Morty’s fear of being overly reliant on Rick while Rick, having finished his Rick Prime arc prior, chooses Morty over Diane.
In Season 8, there’s set to be another balance between episodes that hit the flowing story of Rick, Morty, and the Smith family, and those that are one-off little episodic romps through some sci-fi action. In the First Look video shown above, which premiered at New York Comic Con, there looks to be a classic Rick and Morty adventure, as it were.
As shown by this BC preview piece, there’ll be a full Jerry episode, Sarah Chalke will play another kind of Beth, and a Summer-focused episode. The preview images also show Boss Hog Rick, Homesteader Rick, Constellatio Rick, Old Morty Jr. – seemingly ushering in the return of the half-Gazorpian – Arcade Morty, and Adult Summer.
Rick and Morty Returns on a High
Whenever Adult Swim decides to return Rick and Morty to our screens, it’ll be with the show flying high. Season 8 eclipsed viewership of the season prior, and the payoffs were rather well received by fans. Plus, the IP remains prevalent beyond the TV schedule.
Where it’s at its most popular, perhaps, is online. Amidst the hundreds of games at the NJ online casino, Rick and Morty Megaways is always among the favorites. In the slot, you can spin for Federation Wild Spins, Pickle Rick Free Spins, and Vindicators Free Spins while a Morty is dunked in a vat, and Rick can pop up to portal in some wins.
Elsewhere, Rick and Morty were still prominent in MultiVersus, but even after the work was put in to change the voices to the new voice actors, the Warner Bros. Games creation will be shutting down on May 30. The IP also took a dip in the increasingly popular world of anime. It didn’t do too well critically, but Rick and Morty: The Anime did showcase the versatility of the show’s setting.
Where once it was penciled in for ten seasons, Adult Swim can now confirm that Rick and Morty has been renewed through to Season 12, which is expected to keep it running to 2029. Likely kicking off some new arcs, Season 8 now has greater scope for those stories over the seasons to come.
