Initially I thought “A Day in the Life” would be a Blunt Shelter Records release. I don’t actually know that BluntOne founded it (“a Budapest based label” according to their own page) but I also didn’t think the name was a coincidence. Either way this one actually came out on Lofi Girl (a/k/a Lofi Records), and I can’t think of a more accurate name for the aesthetic here. I can’t tell you what part of the music is Baen Mow’s and what part is the blunt one’s, but what I can guarantee is that this is exactly the kind of vibe you’d get from “lo-fi instrumental rap to study to” if you searched for it on YouTube right now.

Songs like “Butterfly Nebula” aren’t just chill, they’re hypnotic. I want you to either close your eyes or turn off the lights wherever you are right now. If you have ear buds, put them in. If you have headphones, put them on. If you have a good stereo (wired or wireless), turn it up. Any way you can get this music into your audio canals will suffice. Now just sit there and listen, in darkness, in stillness. Allow the “Angelic Particles” to float over you. The snare drums are so softly tapped I think they were played with a brush (wire fan). The interwoven melody will mesmerize you. This is soothing like a fresh cup of chai latte.

You could argue that everything about “A Day in the Life” is a lo-fi music cliche… and you’d be right. Frankly I’d like to know why that’s a bad thing. If a cliche can be as refreshing as “Holnap” then I want to bathe in cliche. It makes me feel like I’m sitting on the hilltop in their cover art, staring up at an aurora borealis, localized entirely within my eardrums. I want to go there. I want to be there. I want to feel that tranquility. For a brief time listening to this song I’m transported to that peaceful place.

Hardcore gangster rap fans, trap music fans, SoundCloud rap fans need not apply here. BluntOne x Baen Mow is not for you. For those who live a hectic life and just need some blissfully slow, almost eerily soothing sounds, this is the jam that spreads like marmalade on toast. Come spend “A Day in the Life” of this duo and find out what it’s like to chill.
